The National Parks Need Your Vote!

The National Park Foundation has just a few days left to get out the vote in support of America’s national parks, in the $1 million Lowe’s Community Giving Campaign! Through January 21, NPF is one of four charities competing for a percentage of the $1 million grant from the Lowe’s Charitable and Education Foundation. A few days of voting still remain so if you haven’t yet, please cast your vote daily for the parks at http://www.lowes.com/give or www.facebook.com/lowes. And then help spread the word about this outstanding fundraising opportunity for our national parks!

As part of this challenge grant campaign, each of the competing charities is guaranteed $100,000. Public voting will determine how the remaining $600,000 will be allotted to the four charities. Funds raised for the Foundation through this campaign will support national park restoration and preservation efforts, connect underserved communities to their parks, and give disadvantaged children the opportunity to experience their national parks for the first time. Every vote is critical – please help us get the word out.

What 3 Words Will You Be in 2011?

While reading Chris Brogan’s blog a few days ago I ran across his My 3 Words for 2010 post and it’s something I’ve been thinking about on the back burner. He uses three words as a replacement for the typical New Year’s resolution. The 3 words serve as his guide to help him focus on the year ahead.

So far I only have one for 2011 – Grow- and I don’t mean my waist!

Lots of things it can apply to, but for the most part business. This means more customers, more services, more photos in my stock photography library, more content, more, more, more.

Doesn’t look like the weather is going to cooperate in the Boston area for viewing the full lunar eclipse on 12/21/2010.

WordPress Email Problem

Ran into some problems getting WordPress to send email.

Running WordPress 3.0 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and IIS 7.

Spent the better part of a day trying diferent things…

Various SMTP WordPress plugins
Various SMTP server settings
Various firewall rules
Google, google, google
Sifting through logs for any hint of what the problem might be
More coffee

Thanks to Mario Vargas’ blog post I got pointed in the right direction. I’m not hosting at GoDaddy, but his info helped get me straightened out.

The WordPress plugin WP-Mail-SMTP was the fix!!! It reconfigures the wp_mail() function to use SMTP instead of mail() and creates an options page to manage the settings.
